The CON-T1L is a network media converter that has a single CAT5/6 RJ45 connector and two single twisted pair 10BASE-T1L ports.

The CON-T1L takes a standard CAT5/6 Ethernet signal and converts it to 10Base-T1L over twisted pair cable. Perfect for retrofit and new installations alike, the CON-T1L allows you to take advantage of high speed Ethernet/IP communication on single twisted pair cabling.

Product Details
Application 
The primary purpose of the CON-T1L is to provide high-speed data transmission over long distances using a single twisted pair of copper wires. It is useful in industrial settings or in scenarios where infrastructure needs to minimize cabling costs and complexity, as with unitary controllers in a building automation systems architecture.

Best Practices
  • Max distance between 2 individual devices is 2,000 feet (cable health dependent) at 24AWG
  • Supports a maximum of 64 devices per network
  • All cabling will need to be re-terminated at each device with 1 pair of wires per terminal block
  • Do not wire any cable in a double, star, or “T” architecture
  • MS/TP devices and T1L devices cannot be mixed on the same physical bus (MS/TP will be overwhelmed and stop communicating)
  • Testing has shown that while the bypass relays help maintain downstream network devices in the even of a power failure on a CON-T1L, when more than 3 devices lose power on a single trunk, the network impedance increases to a point where the network will no longer function. Ensure that you allow for this in your design

Network Architecture

The T1L network is wired in a daisy-chain type architecture from device to device. Each twisted pair set is wired into its own individual terminal block (rather than 2 pairs of wire in a single terminal block). There are bypass relays between the 2 T1L terminal blocks to temporarily maintain the network in case of a power failure.
